Ageing And The Face: What Changes And Why

Good aesthetic medicine is not about erasing age, but understanding how the face changes over time.

Facial ageing is often blamed on skin alone, but skin is only one part of the story. The face ages in layers.

Bone resorption changes the framework of the face, especially around the eyes, jaw, and midface. Fat pads shift and shrink, altering contours and shadows. Ligaments lose strength, allowing tissues to descend. Skin becomes thinner and less elastic.

Understanding this layered process is essential for natural results. Treating only surface lines without addressing structure leads to short-lived improvement. Overcorrecting one layer to compensate for another creates imbalance.

Ageing is not a failure. It is biology. Good aesthetic medicine works with these changes, restoring harmony rather than chasing youth.

When patients understand why their face is changing, they make better decisions. The goal is not to reverse ageing but to soften its impact while preserving character and expression.
