AMT vs PRP vs Other Hair Treatments

Why successful hair restoration is about the right combination, not a single solution

Hair loss is rarely simple, and this is where many patients feel overwhelmed. They are presented with acronyms, devices, injectables, supplements, and promises, often without a clear explanation of what each treatment actually does or whether it suits their type of hair loss.

PRP works by concentrating your own platelets and growth factors and reintroducing them into the scalp. Its strength lies in stimulation. It can improve follicle activity, prolong the growth phase of hair, and reduce shedding when follicles are still viable. PRP works best in early to moderate thinning and in patients whose hair loss is driven by inflammation, stress, or hormonal shifts rather than complete follicle loss.

AMT takes a different approach. Rather than focusing only on growth factors, it targets cellular signalling and regeneration. It aims to improve the scalp environment, follicle communication, and long-term follicle resilience. In practice, this can mean better hair quality, reduced miniaturisation, and more sustainable results over time. AMT is particularly valuable when hair loss has a chronic component or when PRP alone has plateaued.

Other treatments play supporting roles. Topical and oral medications address hormonal pathways, particularly in androgenetic hair loss. Devices such as low-level laser therapy improve blood flow and cellular energy. Nutritional and lifestyle factors influence inflammation, cortisol, and micronutrient availability.

The mistake is viewing these treatments as competitors. Hair loss is multifactorial, and successful management usually involves a combination approach tailored to diagnosis, stage, and patient lifestyle. The most important step is understanding why hair loss is happening. Once that is clear, treatment becomes far more effective and far less frustrating.
