The Ego vs the Soul
Learning to recognise the difference between fear-based reactions and grounded inner knowing.

Once you slow down, reconnect with your body, and begin to feel safer inside yourself, something interesting happens. You start to notice different voices inside you. One pushes. One criticises. One fears. Another feels calm, grounded, and quietly certain. This is where discernment comes in.
Understanding the Ego
The ego often gets a bad reputation, but it’s definitely not the villain. It’s a protector. It formed through past experiences to keep you safe. The ego speaks through fear, urgency, comparison, and control.
It is loud because it learned it had to be, almost to the point that it had no other choice.
The Voice of the Soul
The soul doesn’t shout. It doesn’t rush. It doesn’t argue. It speaks through calm knowing, curiosity, and inner steadiness.
The difference is not volume. It’s quality. The ego feels tense whilst the soul feels grounded. Learning to tell them apart takes some time, patience, and embodiment.

Why Discernment Matters
When you’re disconnected from your body, ego runs the show. When you’re embodied, discernment becomes possible. This is how intuition strengthens and how you stop second-guessing yourself. This is how you make choices that feel aligned rather than reactive.
You’re Not Getting It Wrong
Sometimes you’ll follow the ego. Sometimes you’ll override your intuition. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed, but it does mean you’re learning. The goal isn’t to silence the ego, it’s to recognise it without letting it drive.
My Takeaway
Discernment is not about perfection. It’s about awareness. And the more safety you feel inside yourself, the clearer your inner guidance becomes. You definitely already know more than you think…
Take a breath before you journal. Notice what feels settled versus tense in your body.
Journal Prompts
How does my ego speak to me
How does my soul communicate
When do I feel most aligned in my decisions
What would it look like to pause before reacting
Until next time, trust the quieter voice. It’s wiser than you realise.
