The Summer Beauty Edit: What's in My Bag
Summer calls for a more considered approach to what you carry. Sophie Blowfield shares the eight beauty products currently earning a permanent spot in her bag: the essentials that work as hard as the season demands

There's something about summer that makes me more intentional about what I actually carry. Heavier bags feel wrong in warmer weather, and long days shift into longer evenings without much notice. What ends up in your bag becomes a genuine edit: the products you'll actually use versus the ones you carry out of habit.
For me, the summer bag has become its own considered exercise. I've learned to be ruthless about what makes the cut, because the products I carry need to work across a beach morning and a dinner reservation, a flight and a walk through the city. These eight have earned their place through repeated use, not aspiration. This is the real, working edit that lives in my bag right now.
Sofie Pavitt Mandelic Acid Serum

If there's one product that's genuinely changed how I travel, it's this. Summer often means unpredictable skin. Shifts in climate, humidity, sunscreen build-up and the inevitable stress that comes with time zones can all trigger breakouts at the worst moments. Sofie Pavitt's Mandelic Acid Serum helps calm any breakout overnight, which sounds like an overstatement until you've tried it. It's the kind of product that gives you back control when your skin decides to rebel, and that peace of mind alone makes it essential.
Farah Homidi Essential Blonzer Compact

Farah Homidi has created a makeup brand for the fashion set, and this compact is exactly the kind of product that makes you understand why. The packaging alone is worth carrying. It feels considered and beautiful in a way that most makeup packaging doesn't. The blonzer itself delivers that sun-warmed, blush-meets-bronzer effect that summer makeup is built around. It's the finishing touch that pulls a bare-faced look together, and the design makes reaching for it feel like a moment.
SIDIA Midas Hand Serum

Hands take a beating in summer. Between sunscreen, hand sanitiser, sea salt and chlorine, they end up dry and neglected. Midas Hand Serum from SIDIA has become my constant companion for exactly this reason. The formula sinks in quickly without any tackiness, and the scent is subtle enough that it doesn't compete with fragrance. It's the small ritual of caring for your hands that makes the difference between looking pulled together and looking rushed.
Lesse Regeneration Mist

This is my in-bag reset button. The Regeneration Mist delivers a genuine skincare moment on the go: refreshing, hydrating and restorative all at once. It's the kind of product that makes long days feel more manageable, whether you're mid-flight, between meetings or transitioning from day to evening. There's something about a considered mist that feels more luxurious than it should, and this one earns its place every single time.
Merit Signature Lip Liner in Cowboy

Cowboy is the perfect brown tone, the kind of shade that reads as your lips but better, adding just enough definition without ever looking overdone. Merit's Signature Lip Liner delivers the buildable, sheer formula that's become their signature, gliding on smoothly without any tugging or crumbling. For summer, when I want a natural lip with a touch of polish, this is the only liner I need. It's foolproof in the best way: impossible to mess up, easy to build and consistently flattering.
Summer Fridays Vanilla Lip Butter Balm

Paired over Merit's Cowboy liner, the Vanilla Lip Butter Balm creates the perfect low-effort summer lip. The formula is genuinely nourishing, thick and buttery without being heavy, and the vanilla scent is comforting without veering into overly sweet territory. It's the kind of lip product you find yourself reaching for constantly, whether for a quick refresh or as the finishing touch on a considered look. Some products just feel like summer, and this is one of them.
Hair by Sam McKnight Dry Shampoo

Every cool girl I know has this in her bag, and after using it, I understand why. The Sam McKnight dry shampoo delivers that fresh, refreshed feeling without any of the chalky residue or heavy scent that plagues most dry shampoos. It refreshes roots between washes without weighing hair down, which is crucial in summer when you're stretching washes to protect colour or preserve a good blow-dry. It's the kind of product that feels genuinely elevated, which is rare in this category.
19/99 Lash and Brow Tint

I'm particular about my brow products. It's the part of my routine I rarely compromise on, and this has been my go-to since it first arrived. What makes it work, especially in the hot summer months, is how genuinely lightweight it feels. The formula delivers natural, barely-there coverage that defines without ever looking heavy or overdone, which is exactly what I want from a summer brow product. The super-fine wand separates and coats each hair for a clean, smudge-free application, giving the appearance of freshly tinted lashes and brows without any of the fuss. I use it as a base and fill in with a brow pencil where I want more definition, the perfect combination for that groomed-but-natural finish.
The truth about the summer beauty bag is that it becomes an exercise in editing. What you carry says something about what you actually value: the products that work reliably, feel good to use and earn their place through function rather than aspiration, which is, ultimately, what a good beauty edit should do.
