What even is healing?

Healing isn’t a single moment — it’s a process of feeling, integrating, and reconnecting with yourself. A reflection on slowing down, allowing emotions, and finding wholeness in the in-between.

Healing Has No Formula

Here’s the thing: there’s no one-size-fits-all roadmap when it comes to healing. Our paths are woven so intricately that trying to pin down “the right way” is impossible. Healing looks different for everyone. Some people cry it out, some journal, some find therapy, some dive into energy work, more than often, it’s all of the above at different points. But the deeper truth? You don’t actually realise you need healing until you start doing it.

Healing Is Feeling

If I had to sum up healing in one word, it would be this — feeling.
We’re so used to resisting our pain, pushing it down, burying it beneath distractions — Netflix binges, bottomless brunches, back-to-back work projects, even endless “healing modalities” that keep us busy but never really let us sit in it.

Take a breakup, for example. The first instinct for many of us? Call the girls, put on your heels, drown the heartache in cocktails and dancing. It feels fun, it feels alive — but really, it’s just a distraction. The pain doesn’t leave; it sits there, waiting, tucked away in the body until it’s safe enough to surface again.

Healing isn’t about avoiding. It’s about giving yourself the space and courage to feel every last drop of what you’re going through — to cry, rage, grieve, collapse and then, to breathe again.
That, my beautiful people, is healing.

The Whole-Self Experience

Healing isn’t just about emotions. It’s a full-spectrum journey that touches:

  • Physical: how your body carries pain and releases it.

  • Emotional: letting yourself truly feel.

  • Mental: rewiring the stories you’ve carried.

  • Spiritual: reconnecting to something greater, however you define it.

Let’s be real for a second. Healing is trending… and this is why “healing” as a buzzword sometimes bothers me. It’s become such a fad that people jump from cacao ceremonies to breathwork to crystal sound baths — never really giving themselves the space to integrate or even understand why they’re doing it.

Healing isn’t about collecting modalities like Pokémon cards. It’s about slowing down enough to let those experiences move through you and change you.
It’s as simple as sitting with the shifts instead of rushing to the next “thing.”

Slow & Steady

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is this: take it slow.
Be careful about who you trust and invite into your healing journey. Don’t throw yourself into five different modalities at once — not because they’re “bad,” but because without space to process (what I, and many others in the healing space, call integration), you risk overwhelming yourself and bypassing the actual work.

Integration is what transforms healing from “things you do” into a way you live.

Healing is tender. It’s sacred. It deserves your patience.

My Takeaway

Healing has been one of the most powerful, life-changing discoveries of my life. It’s messy, it’s uncomfortable, it’s sometimes so raw you wonder why you ever started… but it’s also one of the best gifts you will ever give yourself.

And the truth? You’re already healing — just by reading this, just by opening your heart to the possibility of more.

See, healing is not about arriving at some perfect version of yourself, nor is it a race. It’s a tender unfolding of your own truth.
There will be days when you feel light and expansive, and others when you feel like you’re wading through mud. Both are totally valid and both are part of it.

It’s about coming home to yourself, layer by layer, moment by moment.
Trust that your path is yours for a reason, and every step — no matter how small — is leading you closer to wholeness.

Just remember: you’re not broken. You’re simply peeling back the layers of who you thought you had to be, so you can meet who you truly are.

If you’re ready to explore your own healing journey, grab a pen and let these prompts guide you:

  1. What feelings have I been resisting or distracting myself from lately?

  2. When was the last time I let myself fully feel something without trying to fix it?

  3. In which areas of my life (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual) do I sense the biggest need for healing right now?

  4. What does “integration” mean to me — and how can I create more space for it?

  5. If I could rewrite my relationship with healing, what would it look like?

Take a few minutes to write, doodle, or voice note your reflections.
You’ll be surprised how much clarity flows when you pause and tune in.
